Dengue and Monsoon

The virus usually spreads during the monsoon season when mosquitoes breed in waterlogged areas.During months of August, September and October they are considered to be very active.
It is a life threatening disease claiming several lives every year and has become a major public health problem.According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are about 390 million cases reported worldwide, out of which 96 million needs medical treatment. The number of cases have doubled as compared to the previous years. However, this year isn't expected to be any better and it has become a cause of concern.
When the temperatures fall below the standard of 16 degrees, it becomes very difficult for the dengue mosquitos to breed.Very rare transmissions have been observed during winter season.
